Investment Strategy Team
GLC’s Investment Strategy Team is responsible for developing GLC’s economic and capital market outlook, as well as timely and insightful market research to our clients.
President and Chief Investment Officer
Ron was named President of GLC in 2018 and he is responsible for all of GLC’s investment management and business operations, making him ultimately responsible for the strategic direction of GLC and ensuring GLC’s investment performance remains strong. He will continue as the Chief Investment Officer of GLC, a role he assumed in 2014.
As CIO, Ron oversaw GLC’s growth of assets under management from $38 billion to over $55 billion today. Prior to 2014, Ron held the role of Chief Investment Strategist at GLC, building on his direct portfolio management experience in equity and balanced portfolios, including specialty portfolio strategies.
Ron is known for taking decisive action and a collaborative leadership style. He has led many large-scale initiatives for GLC, including signing on to the United Nations Principles of Responsible Investing, the development of several new and specialty mandates, and the strategic positioning and mandate alignment of each of GLC’s distinct investment teams.
Ron is a CFA charterholder and earned an honours bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Manitoba.
Chief Investment Strategist, GLC
As Chief Investment Strategist, Brent is responsible for forming and communicating GLC’s investment outlook. Brent provides insight into current market and economic conditions for our clients and investment partners across Canada.
As a member of GLC's Asset Mix Committee, Brent contributes to asset mix allocation decisions across a wide variety of GLC’s balanced mandates.
Brent has more than 20 years of financial services and investment management industry experience. He has been with GLC and its predecessor companies since 2008.
Brent is a CFA charterholder, holds the Personal Financial Planner designation from the Institute of Canadian Bankers, and a bachelor of science degree (economics-quantitative methods) from the University of Toronto.
Manager, Investment Strategy
Andrew joined the company in 2012 and has worked in the investment industry since 2007. Andrew supports GLC's Chief Investment Strategist and monitors economic and market developments, manages investment databases, and contributes to various market commentary publications.
Working with the Laketon investment team, Andrew conducts bottom-up fundamental research of Canadian equities and provides analytical support to the portfolio manager.
Andrew holds an honours bachelor of commerce degree from University College Dublin, an honours master of business degree (finance) from UCD Michael Smurfit Business School, and is a CFA charterholder.
Business Development Team
GLC’s Business Development team is responsible for managing GLC’s relationships with its distribution networks, providing insight into current market and economic conditions, and communicating portfolio strategy and positioning for GLC’s investment mandates.
Amin Joseph Barakat
Amin is responsible for managing GLC Asset Management Group’s relationships with its distribution network. His focus is on communicating portfolio strategy and positioning for the investment mandates across GLC’s five investment divisions, as well as providing insight into current market and economic conditions.
Amin started his current GLC role in 2016, bringing over 15 years of industry experience to his role. Having worked overseas, as well as in Canada, he incorporates a global perspective in providing appropriate context to dynamic market conditions that has been valued by diverse audiences including investors, advisors and international private bankers. Amin earned an HBA from the University of Toronto and an MBA from Queen’s University. Amin also holds the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) and FCSI designations.
Milos is responsible for managing GLC Asset Management Group’s client relationships with its distribution network. He works closely with wealth management sales teams and financial advisors across the country with a focus on communicating portfolio strategy for the investment mandates across GLC’s five investment divisions. Milos is a captivating speaker who presents insight into capital markets, current market and economic conditions.
With over 30 years of experience in the investment industry, Milos joined Laketon Investment Management (a predecessor of GLC) in 2004.
Milos holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from York University. He is also a Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) and a holder of the LLQP (Life License Qualification Program) designation. Milos is GLC’s bilingual representative (French).
Chris is responsible for managing GLC Asset Management Group’s relationships with its distribution network. His focus is on communicating portfolio strategy and positioning for the investment mandates across GLC’s five investment divisions, as well as providing insight into current market and economic conditions.
Prior to joining GWL as a regional sales manager in 2013, Chris spent 20 years with one of the big five Canadian financial institutions, primarily on the brokerage side as an IROC licensed investment representative co-managing $225 million. Joining GLC in 2018, Chris continues to be passionate about applying logical investment solutions that help clients achieve their goals.
He achieved his Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) designation in 2005.
Robin is responsible for managing GLC Asset Management Group’s key business relationships within its distribution network. She provides strategic positioning and support for the investment mandates across GLC’s five investment divisions. Robin works closely with investment consultants and financial advisors across the country to deliver insight into current market and economic conditions.
Joining GLC in 2012, Robin arrived with 16 years of investment industry experience working with several institutional money management firms. She has extensive experience in institutional business development, managing and fostering client and consultant relationships and investment sales with IIROC-licensed investment advisors for both wrap and high-net worth markets.
Robin studied Business Administration, Communications and Marketing at Ryerson University in Toronto. She holds the Investment Funds Institute of Canada designation (IFIC).
