GLC asset mix committee team

This group of GLC’s senior portfolio managers, investment experts and analysts make strategic and tactical asset mix decisions to maximize return and control risks across market cycles within the specific investment objectives of each of GLC’s balanced, target date and target risk asset allocation portfolios. Each member of the committee is a focused asset class, portfolio solutions and/or market specialist and brings a unique perspective to the table. This powerful, multi-disciplinary asset management team delivers enhanced active management to identify, manage and optimize all the variables that can influence obtaining the best long-term risk-adjusted results. 

Ron Hanson

President and Chief Investment Officer


As President and Chief Investment Officer, Ron oversees all of GLC’s investment management and business operations and is ultimately responsible for GLC’s strategic direction and ensuring investment performance remains strong.

Building on his direct portfolio management experience in equity and balanced portfolios, Ron became Chief Investment Officer of GLC in 2014, and has since overseen GLC’s growth of assets under management from $38 billion to over $55 billion today. Ron plays a significant role on GLC’s Global Multi-Asset Strategy team in setting the strategic and tactical asset mix views for all of GLC’s balanced, target-date and target-risk asset allocation fund solutions.

Ron led the formalization of GLC’s responsible investment strategy across all of GLC’s investment activities and processes in 2016. His leadership in pursuing and advancing responsible investment portfolio management strategies, including progressive ESG integration and engagement policies, continues to this day – setting high standards for GLC as reflected in consistent scores at or above industry median in the annual United Nations Principles of Responsible Investing reporting results.

Ron is known for taking decisive action through a collaborative leadership style. He has led many large-scale initiatives for GLC, including the development of several new and specialty mandates and elevating the bench strength, capabilities and performance of each of GLC’s distinct investment teams.

Ron is a CFA charterholder and earned an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba. Ron is an active member of the Finance and Administration Committee for United Way Winnipeg. 

Patricia Nesbitt

Senior Vice-President, Equities


Patricia oversees GLC’s GWL Investment Management (GWLIM) division, a team of senior equity portfolio managers, analysts and research experts who she’s been leading since 1991. She’s also the lead portfolio manager for the GWLIM Canadian All Cap Growth equity mandate and has been associated with the portfolio since she joined the GWLIM team in 1987.

Patricia brings over three decades of top-down macro-strategy and bottom-up fundamental analysis expertise to her role as co-chair of the GLC Global Multi-Asset Strategy team. As co-chair, Patricia plays a leadership role in setting the strategic and tactical asset mix views for all of GLC’s balanced, target-date and target-risk asset allocation fund solutions.

Patricia is a CFA charterholder and holds an honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba. She’s also a former president of the Winnipeg Society of Financial Analysts, past chair of the Winnipeg Humane Society and recipient of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women award.  

Clayton Bittner

Vice-President, Equities


Clayton is the lead portfolio manager for GWLIM’s Canadian and U.S. dividend strategies. He’s also a member of GLC’s Global Multi-Asset Strategy team, which oversees all of GLC’s balanced, target-date and target-risk asset allocation fund solutions.

Clayton joined the GWLIM team in 2006 and brings more than 20 years of industry experience to the portfolio management team.

Clayton is a CFA charterholder and a Licensed International Financial Analyst. He also holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba. 

Dylan Fricker

Vice-President, Equities


Dylan is the lead manager of the SRI Canadian Equity portfolio, co-manager of the Canadian Resource mandate and assists in portfolio management of GWLIM’s flagship Canadian Equity portfolio. He is also a member of the GLC Global Multi-Asset Strategy team, which oversees all of GLC’s balanced, target-date and target-risk asset allocation fund solutions.

He began his career in investment management and research in 1999 and has worked with the GWLIM portfolio management team since 2007.

Dylan is a CFA charterholder and earned an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Regina. 

Brent Joyce

Chief Investment Strategist


As Chief Investment Strategist, Brent is responsible for forming and communicating GLC’s investment outlook. Brent provides insight into current market and economic conditions for clients and investment partners across Canada. Brent’s work in capital market research and economic cycle analysis has been instrumental in developing GLC’s proprietary economic scorecard and model-informed investment process for GLC’s Global Multi-Asset Strategy team. As co-chair of the team, Brent plays a leadership role in formulating asset mix decisions across all of GLC’s balanced and asset allocation mandates.

Brent has more than 20 years of financial services and investment management industry experience. He has been with GLC and its predecessor companies since 2008 and is a sought-after industry expert known for his straightforward market insights and practical investment strategies for individual and institutional investors. His current and relevant views have earned him appearances on BNN Bloomberg and as an industry key-note speaker across Canada.

Brent is a CFA charterholder, holds the Personal Financial Planner designation from the Institute of Canadian Bankers and a Bachelor of Science degree (economics-quantitative methods) from the University of Toronto. 

Brenda Nicholls

Vice-President, Equities


Brenda is the lead portfolio manager of the London Capital U.S. mid-cap equity portfolio and co-manages the London Capital U.S. equity mandate. She’s also a member of the GLC Global Multi-Asset Strategy team, which oversees all of GLC’s balanced, target-date and target-risk asset allocation fund solutions. Brenda has held positions of increasing responsibility with a continued focus on U.S. equities since first joining GLC’s predecessor asset management company in 1998.

Brenda is a CFA charterholder and earned an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba. She also holds a Chartered Market Technician designation. 

Janet Salter

Vice-President, Fixed Income


Janet is a lead manager for the Canadian Bond, Core Plus Bond and Tactical Bond mandates, with additional oversight responsibilities for some of Portico's sector-focused and specialized fixed income portfolios. Janet also contributes as a member of GLC’s Global Multi-Asset Strategy team, which oversees all of GLC’s balanced, target-date and target-risk asset allocation fund solutions.

Joining GLC’s predecessor asset management firm in 1995, Janet brings over 25 years of portfolio management expertise spanning active and passive fixed-income strategies, including customized mandates for pension plans and financial institutions.

Janet is a CFA charterholder and holds an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo. 

Mark Hamlin

Vice-President, Fixed Income


Mark leads GLC’s Portico Investment Management division, which oversees more than $17 billion of fixed income assets under management within bond, balanced, mortgage and money market mandates. His work in developing portfolio positioning strategies with respect to interest rate and yield curve movement outlooks was instrumental in creating GLC’s Tactical Bond portfolio strategy, of which Mark remains a lead portfolio manager. Mark is also a key member of the GLC Global Multi-Asset Strategy team, which oversees all of GLC’s balanced, target-date and target-risk asset allocation fund solutions.

Mark brings over two decades of international fixed income and foreign exchange trading experience with a focus on derivatives to GLC. Prior to joining GLC, he held senior positions with leading financial companies in London, UK and New York.

Mark is a CFA charterholder, Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) and holds an honours bachelor of economics degree from Carleton University.
