Portico Investment Management Team

Portico Investment Management is GLC’s fixed-income investment management division.  Portico’s investment team uses a consistent, measured and disciplined investment approach that integrates fundamental, quantitative and technical analysis to add value while managing risk.

Mark Hamlin

Vice-President, Fixed Income

Mark leads GLC’s Portico Investment Management division, which oversees more than $17 billion of fixed income assets under management within bond, balanced, mortgage and money market mandates. His work in developing portfolio positioning strategies with respect to interest rate and yield curve movement outlooks was instrumental in creating GLC’s Tactical Bond portfolio strategy, of which Mark remains a lead portfolio manager. Mark is also a key member of the GLC Global Multi-Asset Strategy team, which oversees all of GLC’s balanced, target-date and target-risk asset allocation fund solutions.

Mark brings over two decades of international fixed income and foreign exchange trading experience with a focus on derivatives to GLC. Prior to joining GLC, he held senior positions with leading financial companies in London, UK and New York.

Mark is a CFA charterholder, Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) and holds an honours bachelor of economics degree from Carleton University. 

Dale Haynes

Vice-President, Fixed Income

Dale is lead manager for the Portico Core Bond portfolio strategy, one of the largest Canadian bond segregated funds in Canada. As a senior portfolio manager within GLC’s fixed income division (Portico Investment Management), he also oversees some of Portico's sector-focused and specialized fixed income portfolios.

Dale began an investment career in 1990 that has included direct portfolio management responsibilities for active and passive fixed income strategies. Dale credits his deep fundamental and disciplined approach to corporate credit analysis to his varied experience early in his career, including accounting, asset liability management and a diverse educational background.

He holds a Chartered Investment Manager designation as well as an honours bachelor of business administration degree in finance from Brock University.

Janet Salter

Vice-President, Fixed Income

Janet is a lead manager for the Canadian Bond, Core Plus Bond and Tactical Bond mandates, with additional oversight responsibilities for some of Portico's sector-focused and specialized fixed income portfolios. Janet also contributes as a member of GLC’s Global Multi-Asset Strategy team, which oversees all of GLC’s balanced, target-date and target-risk asset allocation fund solutions.

Joining GLC’s predecessor asset management firm in 1995, Janet brings over 25 years of portfolio management expertise spanning active and passive fixed-income strategies, including customized mandates for pension plans and financial institutions.

Janet is a CFA charterholder and holds an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo. 

Natalie Laden

Vice-President, Fixed Income

Natalie is lead portfolio manager responsible for several of Portico’s specialty fixed-income mandates, including the Canadian Long, Ultra Long and Socially Responsible bond funds. She has a broad range of experience in the Canadian fixed-income field, including strategy formulation, fundamental and technical analysis and security selection.

Her 30 years of experience in the management of fixed income funds includes the GWLIM Core Canadian bond, corporate, income, balanced, government, mortgage, money market and specialized custom bond mandates.

Natalie holds a chartered investment manager (CIM) designation.

Alexa Richardson

Associate Manager, Fixed Income

Alexa is the lead portfolio manager for Portico’s income-focused mandates, Real Return Bond mandates, and the fixed-income components of several of GLC’s balanced mandates. She also assists in the management of the Core Bond mandate.

She has focused on fixed income analysis and management for the company since 2009. Previously, she completed 2 years of asset management training rotations as part of Great-West Life’s Portfolio Management Training program.

Alexa is a CFA charterholder and CAIA charterholder. She also earned an honours bachelor of commerce degree (finance and human resources) from the University of Manitoba.


Jenny Wan

Manager, Fixed Income

Jenny is Portico’s lead manager for the Short-Term Bond mandate and helps manage the Core Plus Bond and Canadian Bond mandates. She is also responsible for strategy formulation, bond analysis, security selection and trading.

Since 2010, Jenny has focused on fixed-income portfolio management and analytics. Before that, Jenny provided operational support for fixed-income portfolios and trading support to the Laketon equity team for 6 years.

Jenny holds a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of Waterloo and a chartered investment manager (CIM) designation.

Ian Whiteside

Vice-President, Fixed Income

Ian is the lead manager of the corporate bond mandates for GLC’s Portico Investment Management division. Ian joined the Portico team in 2013 and was part of the early development of Portico’s dedicated credit-research area, including proprietary coverage of Canadian and U.S. investment grade and non-investment grade issues.

He also has experience as Portico’s lead credit analyst for high-yield credit research and was instrumental in building out GLC’s credit capabilities in the corporate bond market.

Ian is a CFA charterholder and earned a bachelor of applied science (geological engineering) degree from the University of Waterloo and an International MBA from York University.

Siek Djoe

Senior Quantitative Analyst, Fixed Income

Siek Djoe joined the company in 2005. As a senior quantitative analyst he develops, implements and supports proprietary quantitative, analytical and portfolio management tools for Portico’s fixed income team. Joe is a CFA charterholder and holds a Certificate in Quantitative Finance (CQF).

He earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Monash University in Victoria, Australia and a Bachelor of Science (with distinction) from Iowa State University.

Josh B. Palamattam

Senior Analyst, Credit research team

Josh joined the company in 2016, bringing with him 2 years of experience analyzing credit at one of Canada’s largest insurance companies.

Josh holds an MBA degree in finance from Schulich School of Business, York University, bachelor of commerce degree from Ryerson University, and is a CFA charterholder.

Kevin Reznik

Senior Analyst, Fixed Income

Kevin joined the company in 2013, starting off in the Portfolio Management Training program. He now focuses on assisting with the management of the Index and Core Bond mandate.

Kevin holds an honours bachelor of commerce degree (finance) from the Asper School of Business and is a CFA charterholder.

Emily Vanneste

Analyst, Fixed Income

Emily joined the company in 2016 and has focused on Portico's money market mandates and assisting in bond analysis for the Portico Core Bond mandate.

Emily holds an honours bachelor of business administration degree from the Goodman School of Business at Brock University.

Tracy Yan

Manager, Credit research team

Tracy joined the company in 2017, bringing over 8 years of industry experience. Tracy’s credit analysis experience has covered a broad spectrum of investment grade and non-investment grade fixed income.

Tracy is a CFA charterholder and holds an honours bachelor of arts degree in economics with a specialization in Finance from the University of Waterloo, as well as an honours bachelor of arts degree in English and Translation from the Capital Normal University in Beijing, China.

Fanke Geng

Analyst, Fixed Income

Fanke joined the company in 2019 and focuses on providing fixed income analysis to Portico’s fixed income team. He previously worked as a cash and liquidity management analyst.

Fanke earned his Honors Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo.
