GLC Asset Management Group President, Ruth Ann McConkey, has been named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women.
Launched in 2003 by Women’s Executive Network (WXN), Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Awards was created to shine a spotlight on the incredible accomplishments of professional women across Canada in a way that would both recognize talented leaders and inspire others—the next generation, their peers and themselves—to push the boundaries of what’s possible even further.
“Our organization has long recognized the outstanding contributions that Ruth Ann makes every day, both at work and in the community,” said Stefan Kristjanson, President & COO, Canada, Great-West Life. “We are very proud that she is being recognized as a leader in Canada and on behalf of our entire organization, I would like to offer our congratulations.”
As President of GLC Asset Management Group, Ruth Ann has overall responsibility for the investment management and business operations of GLC, including portfolio strategies for individual, group and institutional marketplaces.
Ruth Ann played an integral role in the creation of the GLC Asset Management Group in 2011 and has served as the head of the organization since its creation. Since that time, she has overseen the organization’s growth from $30.6 billion in assets under management in 2011 to $53.3 billion as at September 30, 2017. Additionally, in 2016, Ruth Ann championed GLC’s decision to become a signatory to the United Nations-backed Principles for Responsible Investment (UN PRI), with the aim to contribute to the development of a more sustainable global financial system.
In the community, Ruth Ann has volunteered for over 10 years on the finance committee of the Sisters of St. Joseph in London, Ont., sharing her professional experience and expertise to help with the management of their financial affairs.
“Ruth Ann is able to weave a fabric of communal relationships that have resilience in times of crisis and resourcefulness in times of need,” said Sister Joan Atkinson, President of the London Foundation of the Sisters of St. Joseph. “The core of all that Ruth Ann does, with her expertise and knowledge in the area of finance, is always in the service of people and their needs.”
As a leader in business, Ruth Ann values the strength of team work and the sharing of expertise and experience. She has undertaken a number of initiatives to share her knowledge and encourage others to aspire to their career goals. These include participating in a recent panel for the CFA Society Winnipeg to discuss gender-diversity in the investment management industry, as well as a guest speaker to HBA-program students at the Ivey Business School. Ruth Ann will receive the award at a gala celebration event in Toronto on Nov. 23, 2017.
